Legendary Trout Waters Beyond the Record Breakers
Dever Springs is one of the most famous names in trout fly fishing, the current brown trout record holder (28lb 1oz!) and home to many thirty pound plus rainbow trout. However, Dever Springs is more than just about big fish.
Clear-Water Haven for Trophy Trout and Nature’s Spectacle
Originally created in 19xx the two clear water lakes are fed from the chalkstream aquifers which provide the perfect conditions in which trout, and the insect life on which they depend, thrive. At Dever Springs you are not only fishing, but fishing for fish you can see, with the opportunity to watch the fish turn and take your fly when put in their path by your perfectly executed cast.
The fishery is open all year with the exception of August, with great fishing every month. However, the spring and early summer tend to be the most popular months, most especially May and June when the epic Mayfly hatch occurs, the moment when the fish go on a feeding frenzy which creates not only amazing fishing but the chance to see this most remarkable feat of Mother Nature when the huge mayflies drift across the water like gun smoke. Premier Trout Fishing Across Lakes and Chalkstream Magic
Our two lakes, Willow and Spring, cover about 6 acres in total which are each stocked with a variety of hard fighting rainbow, brown and blue trout that range from a standard size of 3-5lb to some double figure specimens that could well be your fish of a lifetime. We know these are some the best fish you will ever encounter in Britain as they are reared here at Dever Springs by our resident fishery manager, Aaron Holt who has a lifetime of experience and is taking the fish here to a new level.
The trout are for the most part caught on a variety of nymphs and lures using a medium weight fly rod. However, at certain times of the year the dry fly action can be spectacular as the fish rise to the surface to your fly. The banks are kept well-trimmed for easy casting, with platforms and seats at regular intervals. All fish may be released unharmed or you are very welcome to take fish home that we will prepare at the end of the day.
In addition to the lakes, we also have a lovely beat on the River Dever, that runs beside the lakes that you are welcome to fish. This beautiful chalkstream does require some stealth and patience but the reward will be beautiful wild brown trout and grayling. All we ask is that any fish caught from the river be released unharmed.
